Well I have finally come across a problem I have never seen before. I washed the engine last week then sprayed it down with silicon and have a check hybrid system error. I figured that the fault would go away when everything dries. I do not have a cel and prius drives. I pulled the white cable in the fuse box for 10 minutes to reset the ecu and "check hybrid system" error pops up in minutes.
I just used techstream today for the first time and have found error P0AA6. I have also tried to clear the code in techstream but no luck. I have pulled an HV battery before so I am very aware of the dangers and will keep priuschat members posted.
I have hosed down the engine in the past with zero problems. I am thinking that the seals that protect the electrical bits have dried up and are no longer making electrical connections water tight, bummer. At least the engine looks clean. Travis Decker Member. Thank you. I will pull the disconnect and pull all the orange wires off and clean it with electrical contact cleaner. Ac has not been working correctly. So this would make sense. You can add a little dielectric grease to the connectors too to help keep the seals closed and corrosion and water out. I also put it on the posts of all 12V batteries to keep the corrosion down.
Here is what the mfg says about the grease. If a connection develops corrosion it can affect the way the entire electrical system functions. If you replace the 12v and it is still showing weak voltage, this means that the inverter is not properly supplying power to it and must be replaced.
Lastly, if your Prius stalls while driving, but letting it cool down allows the car to drive again, the inverter may be overheating.
Check for inverter pump turbulence using this video. Code P0A93 suggests that the pump needs to be replaced. Codes P0A94 and P0A78 are much trickier, but typically require full inverter replacement. The most common indication is trouble code P0AA6 no other symptomsbut we have also seen broken chains, failed bearings, bad MG1s trouble code P0A7A and P0A92and seized planetaries altogether. We have also seen these problems on private cars, as they get older.

For dealer techs unfamiliar with it, the problem is mysterious; most recently a customer came to us for diagnosis after the dealer already installed an inverter at no small charge despite the information code pointing to the transmission. This is a case where the technician cannot confirm that the problem is inside the transmission at least without getting the assembly suitably hot before performing an insulation test.
For instance, the information code points to the HV battery rather than the transmission which can direct the technician to look for damaged battery modules, leaking electrolyte to the chassis ground. There is a flat needle bearing that holds the planetary gearset from the MG1 case. This bearing is the weakest mechanical link, prone to failure over time. Once it collapses, the gear it supports falls inward against the load of the chain and grinds into the case of MG1.
